Japan Visa Application Process & Requirements In Kenya
Kenyan citizens travelling to Japan for tourism, business, study, or work must apply for a Japanese visa before departure. Most applications are submitted in person through the Embassy of Japan in Nairobi, with supporting documents presented as physical copies. Processing times and requirements vary depending on the visa category you are applying for.

Document Preparation
Gather all the required documents based on the purpose of your visit (Tourism, Business, Visiting Friends/Family, etc.). Greentod will review your documents to ensure they meet the Embassy's requirements.
Complete the Visa Application
Our consultants will assist you in accurately completing the Japan Visa Application Form and preparing supporting documents such as your cover letter and travel itinerary.
Submit Your Application
Applications are submitted in person at the Embassy of Japan in Nairobi.

Visa Processing
Standard processing time is 5 working days from the date of submission.
Passport Collection
Passports can be collected during the Embassy’s collection hours. The visa fee of KES 13,050 is payable in cash at the time of passport collection.
Collection Hours
- Monday – Friday: 11:00 a.m. – 12:20 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Tourist Visa Requirements
Applicant Documents
- Completed Japan Visa Application Form.
- One recent passport-size photograph.
- Original passport with at least two blank visa pages.
- Copy of the passport bio-data page.
- Flight reservation or travel itinerary.
- Hotel reservation covering the entire stay.
- Original certified bank statements for the last six (6) months.
- Employment letter confirming employment, salary, approved leave, and return to work.
- Business owners should provide:
- Business Registration Certificate.
- Valid Business Permit.
- Proof of directorship (if applicable).
- Detailed day-by-day travel itinerary.
Additional Requirements
Non-Kenyan Residents
Applicants who are not Kenyan citizens (except Somali nationals) must provide proof of legal residence in Kenya, such as:
- Valid Work Permit; or
- Alien ID or other official residency document.
Important Notes
- Applicants must submit their applications in person.
- Additional supporting documents may be requested depending on the individual application.
- Arrange documents neatly and do not staple them.
- Meeting the document requirements does not guarantee visa issuance.
Business Visa Requirements
Documents from the Applicant
- Completed Japan Visa Application Form.
- One recent passport-size photograph.
- Original passport with at least two blank visa pages.
- Copy of the passport bio-data page.
- Employment letter stating the purpose of travel, duration, and who will cover the travel expenses.
- Company Registration Certificate and Business Permit (for business owners).
- Flight reservation.
- Original certified bank statements for the last six (6) months.
Documents from the Inviting Company in Japan
- Invitation letter explaining the purpose of the visit.
- Detailed business schedule or programme.
- Company profile or Certificate of Incorporation.
- Letter of Guarantee (where the inviting company will sponsor the trip).
