China Visa Requirements And Application Process In Kenya

Kenyan citizens travelling to China for tourism, business, study, or work must apply for a Chinese visa before departure. Applications are submitted in person at the Chinese Embassy in Nairobi or through the China Visa Application Service Centre, with supporting documents presented at the time of submission.

When Applying for a China Visa, Kenyan Citizens Must Provide:

Tourist Visit Requirements

  1. Provide a valid passport with at least six months remaining before expiry and two consecutive blank pages. Include a photocopy of the bio data page.

  2. Submit one recent color passport photograph with a clear, front-facing view on a light background. The same photo must also be uploaded during the online application.

  3. Submit an invitation letter from a licensed travel agency in China, a copy of the agency’s business license, and a detailed itinerary. The invitation must include the applicant’s full name, date of birth, passport number, the travel agency’s name, address, phone number, the official seal, and authorized representative’s signature.

  4. Provide a prepaid hotel reservation showing the applicant’s name, check-in and check-out dates, and hotel contact details.

  5. Submit an employment letter for first-time travelers, including the applicant’s name, passport number, date of birth, job position, employer’s contact details, and the signature of a director or manager. Those employed by businesses or sole proprietors must also include the company registration certificate and the employer’s ID copy.

  6. Provide alternative documents where applicable:

    • Unemployed spouses may submit a marriage certificate and the spouse’s employment letter.

    • Retirees, freelancers, and unemployed applicants must submit a police clearance certificate authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a notarized three-month bank statement showing at least KSh 500,000.

    • Applicants under 18 must provide a birth certificate and written guardian consent. If the minor is not traveling with their guardians, the accompanying adult must be named in writing and must apply together or provide a valid Chinese visa.

Business Visit Requirements

  1. Applicants who have visited China before must submit an invitation letter from the inviting party along with a copy of the company’s business license or individual trader ID and a detailed travel itinerary.
  2. Ensure the invitation letter includes the applicant’s full name, date of birth, passport number, the inviter’s name, contact number, address, the legal representative’s signature, and the company seal (optional for individual invitations).

  3. First-time business travelers must submit an Invitation Letter (TE) or Verification Letter of Invitation issued by the inviting party in China, along with a travel itinerary.

  4. Applicants choosing to apply without an invitation letter must provide a notarized six-month bank statement with a minimum balance of KES 1,000,000, a police clearance certificate certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and either a tax clearance/compliance certificate (certified by MFA) or a notarized employment verification/membership certificate from a business or industry association.

  5. The consular officer may request additional documents or an interview. Visa approval, validity, duration of stay, and number of entries are decided on a case-by-case basis.

China Visa Application Process In Kenya

  1. Prepare all required documents (basic and supporting).

  2. Complete the visa application form online and upload documents.

  3. Submit the application and monitor status under “Application Status Enquiry.”

  4. Print the Visa Application Certificate when status shows “Passport to be submitted.”

  5.  Book appointment & Visit the Visa Application Centre to submit passport, photo, and other documents.

  6. Provide fingerprints (unless exempt).

  7. Pay visa and service fees (Kes 8,000) at submission.

  8. Collect passport with pick-up slip on the assigned date.
