Step 4: Book your visa appointment
- Applications are usually submitted in person. Book an appointment at VFS.
Step 5: Complete the visa application form
- Download and complete the Schengen form manually. Ensure the form is filled accurately and avoid these common mistakes that might lead to a visa refusal.
Step 6: Pay the visa fee
- Pay the required visa fee along with the VFS service charge. This is done on your appointment day at the visa centre.
Step 7: Submit your application
- Submit in person at least 15 days before your trip (but not earlier than 6 months). Biometric data (fingerprints) may be required, except for children under 12 or those who submitted within the last 59 months.
Step 8: Attend an interview (if requested)
- Some applicants may be called for an interview to provide additional information or supporting documents.

A duly completed and signed visa application form (signed by parent/guardian if the applicant is a minor).
Original passport + one copy of biometric page (Passport validity of 3 months beyond the visa expiry date, not older than 10 years, with at least two blank pages). Copies of previous Schengen visa and if on the old passport, include a copy of bio data page.
One recent passport-size colour photograph (35 mm x 45 mm) taken against a white background. – NO photocopies.
Any previous passport(s) in original and copies.
Original Kenyan National ID+ Coloured copy.
For non-Kenyan applicants: a valid Kenyan residence permit or re-entry stamp (valid for at least 3 months after visa expiry).
Birth or marriage certificate copies
Invitation letter/proof of purpose of travel:
If invited by a resident in Italy: A letter confirming accommodation, proof of financial support, and assurance that the visitor will not undertake employment in Italy and will leave before visa expiry.
If the host is Italian: Copy of passport or Italian ID.
If the host is a foreign resident: Copy of residence permit.
Independent travellers: Detailed Travel Itinerary.
Proof of sufficient funds (certified bank statements for the last three months (stamped on every page), credit card statements, or financial guarantee/FIDEJUSSIONE from sponsor in Italy+ filled Bank Verification form .
Employment letter confirming leave (if employed).
Documents showing socio-economic status (property ownership, employment contract, etc.).
Valid travel and medical insurance from Schengen approved Insurance providers.
Flight and accommodation booking reservation for the period of the trip.
- Original certified personal bank statements with a duly filled and signed Bank Verification Form. Statements must show a positive balance and cover the last 3 months, issued within one month of submission and stamped by the bank.
