German Visa Application Process
To apply for a short-stay Schengen visa to Germany from Kenya, follow these steps:
Step 1: Complete the Application
- VIDEX Visa Application: Fill out the online VIDEX visa application form or download it from the TLScontact website. If needed, you can choose different languages on the form by scrolling to the top right corner. Ensure the form is completed correctly.
Step 2: Compile Required Documents
Ensure all documents are in order to avoid any delays or rejections. Below is a list of essential documents for Tourist and Visiting Friends & Family purposes:
- Application Form: Fully completed, printed, signed, and dated.
- Biometric Photograph: One recent colored biometric passport photo with a white background.
- Passport:
- Must be an ePassport with at least two blank pages.
- Valid for at least 3 months after your planned return.
- Copy of the passport bio-data page.
- Non-Kenyan Citizens: If you are not a Kenyan citizen, provide a valid residence/work/study permit for Kenya.
- Somali Citizens: If you are a Somali citizen, you must complete and sign the application for exemption from the passport requirement.
- Travel Itinerary: Provide a detailed itinerary outlining your daily activities during the stay+ Flight reservations.
- Accommodation: A hotel reservation or proof of accommodation for your entire stay in Germany.
- Letter of Employment: An original letter from your employer, including details about your position and confirming your absence during your travel.
- Pay Slips: Pay slips from the last three months, certified by your employer.
- Self-Employed:
- Company registration in your name (if applicable).
- Certified bank statements from the business account or M-pesa (if applicable).
- University Students:
- A current letter confirming your registration, study field, absence during your trip, and remaining semesters.
- Bank Statements: Certified bank statements for the past 3 months (preferably showing salary income).
- Note: Mpesa statements are not accepted.
- Travel Health Insurance: Coverage for the entire stay with a minimum of €30,000. Insurance must be valid for all Schengen countries.
- Invitation Letter: Signed letter from the host in Germany, stating the nature of your relationship, the purpose of the visit, duration of stay, and accommodation details.
- Host’s Passport/ID: Copy of the host’s passport/ID (bio-data page). If your host is not German, a copy of their residence permit/card is required.
- Formal Obligation Letter: This letter should be applied for by your host in Germany at the aliens authority (Original copy).
- Proof of Family Ties: For family visits, provide original birth/marriage certificates proving your relationship with the host, plus one copy.
Step 3: Schedule an Appointment
- Book an appointment with the TLScontact service provider to submit your application and documents.
Processing Time
- Complete Applications: Approximately 15 days.
- Incomplete Applications: Up to 45 days.
